Book 1: The Maze Runner
Thomas wakes up a can't remember anything except for his name. He is in the Glade: A small world of boys who must work together to survive. Thomas soon learns about everything in he Glade, Greivers (see below), Beetle Blades (see below), and the biggest mystery of all: the maze. The maze closes every night and then opens back up in the morning. Everyday a small group of boys goes out to explore the ever-changing maze. They call them the maze runners and Thomas knows h must be one of them. Then one day a girl named Theresa shows up, the first girl ever in the Glade, and Thomas feels a special connection to her. I don't want to give away the rest of the story, so go out and buy yourself a copy!
Book Two: The Scorch Trials
The Scorch Trials is the second book and will be coming out on October 12, 2010. We do not know much about the book, but we do know that we will not see the maze anymore, but we will see alot more of the real outside world. The book will begin exactly 4 hours after the first one ended. According to amazon.com it will be 384 pages, which is the exact number of pages in the first book. The cover will be realesed soon on Mr. Dashner's site.
Book Three: The Death Cure
We haven't heard much about this book, since James Dashner has only written the first 2,000 words. It will be released in Fall 2011.
Dictionary
First Day- The first day of a Greenie's life in the Glade.
Gathering- The gathering is a meeting of all the Keepers which is usually held at times of distress.
Greenie- This is what the Gladers call the newest member to the Glade. A person is a Greenie for one month, then it is the next new person's turn. Greenie is an abbreviation for Greenbean.
Keepers- The boys in charge of an area of work in the Glade.
Klunk- The Glader term for poop, because of the sound it makes when it hits the bottom of the toilet.
The Maze- Maze Runners explore the maze everyday. When they get back, they map out the way the maze was for that day and save it. They compare these maps to see if thre is a code. Thomas and Minho are both Runners.
Med Jacks- The doctors of the Glade.
Newbie- A newcomer to the Glade, someone who has been there for just a sot time.
Shank and Shuck- These are insults in the Glade, created by Alby.
The Box- The box is the elevator that brings up new Glader and supplies from the Creators.
The Doors- The openings in the wall of the Glade that lead to the maze. They close loudly everynight. There is a North, South, East, and West door. On one side of each door, there are deep holes and on the other side there are long rods that fit into the hole.
The Glade- The vast courtyard where the Gladers dwell. It is several times the size of a football field and is surrounded by four grey stone walls covered with thick ivy. The walls are hundreds of feet high, with an opening straight down the middle of each four walls that lead out into the maze. The floor is made of huge stone blocks, cracked and filled with tall grasses and weeds.
The Gladers- The boys who live in the Glade. There are about 50-60 Gladers at the time Thomas arrives. They are from their mid-teens to young adults. They were sent to the Glade by the creators because of their extraordinary abilities.
The Maze- The runners explore the maze everyday. The maze changes at night. Thomas helped make the maze.
Vocabulary
Epiphany- (noun) A divine manifestation.
Eradicate- (verb) To destroy completely, as if down to the roots.
Litany- (noun) Any long or tedious address or recital.
